If you've got a chicken emergency, like I've got here today, this is a GREAT place to get some information, though take it w/ a grain of salt. If you wouldn't do that to your kid, you p'bly wouldn't do it to your bird. Also, I'm not entirely sure asprin is o.k. for birds.
Either way, cross your fingers for poor Maggie. Fergie got a good scare and lost some feathers, but nothing like the gaping wounds on my sweet Maggie bird, just one day off her Spring broody. I'm just sick.

Oregon cleans up its beaches every year w/ the SOLV crusade. Is it possible to pick this shit up? No really, I'm serious. SOLV is something of a distributed network that has been successfully used to clean up estuaries all over the US - what if we paid people to pick up plastic rather than fish or whales? I vote that we store it in the desert Southwest when it becomes too dry to support human life there, but that's just me.
Seriously, even if we could pick it all up, where do we put it? I get the feeling it's beyond recycling at this point.

Jack rules! It's a shame he's so lonely and has such a small cage for at night. The chicken bit is my favourite.

Perhaps there are a few good things to come out of Earth's oil addiction. This facility in Quatar used money to cut the crap that was quickly going to make the Spix's Macaw extinct in captivity as it has been in the wild, since 2000. By purchasing animals from uncooperative individuals in several countries, they've been brought to a state-of-the-art facility where a flock of 50 (of the 70 left on Earth) live and are breeding like mad.
Thank you.

Good article about how reformed bird thieves are helping to save the creatures they once exported into the pet bird trade for drug-dealer kind of money, together with the son of the man who introduced them to gringos and the world, who guards their nests against poachers with his trusty scope and rifle.
