Superfund - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No one has mentioned this for many years, now. But check this well-shameful shit out. Our land has been gutted since 2000, dammit, and just like the bail-out, you and I are now being asked to foot the bill. I'd really like to stick my foot up the ass of just one "captain of industry" today. I get a bit cranky when I've got the cramps, you know. From the page: "Approximately 70% of Superfund cleanup activities historically have been paid for by parties responsible (PRPs) for the cleanup of contamination. The only time cleanup costs are not borne by the responsible party is when that party either can not be found or is unable to pay for the cleanup. For those sites, the Superfund law originally paid for toxic waste cleanups through a tax on petroleum and chemical industries. The chemical and petroleum fees were intended to provide incentives to use less toxic substances. Over five years, $1.6 billion was collected, and the tax went to a trust fund for cleaning up abandoned or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. The last full fiscal year in which the Department of the Treasury collected the tax was FY1995. At the end of FY1996, the invested trust fund balance was $6.0 billion. This fund was exhausted by the end of FY2003; since that time funding for these orphan shares has been appropriated by Congress out of general revenues.[4]"

Go down to the bottom of the page for the low down on the different optical efficeincies of various types of lighting. You'll note that low-pressure sodium is particularly good on a per-watt basis, but OLED is catching right the hell up there. I'm really, terribly excited about it all. Note: regular lightbulbs are the 40 or 100W tungsten incandescent @ 120V, FYI

Just in case this blog has been too upbeat lately - he's a little doom and gloom to send you to the bottle, too. Psst...drink New Deal Vodka until the trees are straight.

In the style of PostSecret: "Dear Portland, I am so very sorry that I accidentally taped BBC News over the only copy of Bill Hicks at whatever university that was to be found at Movie Madness, and perhaps the entire state of Oregon. It's an incalcuable loss, and while the record tabs should have been popped out, I still feel horrible about it, to this day. It was funny as hell. I just hope it's available online somewhere, but I don't have a good feeling about it."

Matt is on day 6 of his flu and still down. I'm on day 2 and feeling better than him. Vitamin C. Linus Pauling may be dead, but he sure didn't spend a lot of time on his sick bed.

this is that asshole you were thinking of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islom_Karimov It's Uzbekistan, not Flarnstan. If the name were easier to remember, do you suppose people might have noticed that we supported these megalomanics and and gangsters to invade Afghanistan? Those darn stans again! Are the "superpowers" still using smaller 3rd party states as chess pieces -- oh, that's sooo 20th century. Fail!
